WE NEVER SET DATES. We merely proclaim the Bible truth concerning end time signs. It is Satan who keeps setting these dates to turn people away from truth.

When Noah and Lot warned their respective people of God’s coming judgment and destruction, the people would not listen. Instead they treated Noah and Lot as “extremists”. Then the destruction that DID come found the people unprepared. Thus it will be when Jesus Christ returns. As in the days of Noah and Lot, the soon return of our Lord Jesus will be a snare unto the people who do not heed the warning and surrender their lives to Him who knows all. (Luke 17:26-30)

This world is hearing and seeing the last warning message from God. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision; for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision! (Joel 3:14)

→→ FINAL WARNING AND CALL OF MERCY ←←
→→ WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED? ←←

What you are about to discover in this site is amazing evidence that we in 2019, are living right in the end of times for this world. The prophecy of Daniel 2 alone shows we are in the ‘time of the end’, and all the other evidence proves we are in the very end times. The Biblical signs are clear for all to see, and after reading through this site with open eyes, even the scoffers will struggle to argue against it. Sure, many people throughout history have been proclaiming that they were living in the last days and the end of the world was nigh, and some of the Bible signs have always existed from the early days. But never has there been a time before when ALL these events were evident in so many diverse places and with such frequency and intensity. Our Generation is the FIRST generation to fulfill ALL the biblical signs. So we will show you from the many following signs on this and other pages, that without doubt we are living in the final years that the Bible prophesied were to come.

Please note: We are NOT here to set dates or times. We are here only to warn the world that the second coming of Jesus Christ is NEAR, even “at the door” … Matthew 24:33 …’So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.’

If you take into consideration all the signs, there is no mistaking that our generation is living in the last days, nearing the second coming of Jesus. Problem is, Satan can see how close we are to the end of the world, which is why he brings certain ‘end times groups’ into the spotlight, proclaiming false dates for the second coming, which when those dates come and go, causes many people to turn away completely from the truth. The truth being that WE ARE living in the end times. The Bible is very clear on that. We just can’t set specific dates for Jesus’ return. But we CAN know when the end is near … And we are certainly now seeing ALL these things”.

Before you read on, please note this important point. In Matthew 24, Jesus speaks of wars, earthquakes and such things, but says these are just the “beginning of sorrows” and “the end is not yet”. Now that word “sorrows” in the original language meant “birth pangs”, the pain in childbirth. Now birth pangs speak of frequency and intensity. And as a woman gets nearer the birth, the “pangs” become more frequent and intense. This is true also for the signs of the end times. These signs began not long after Jesus’ day, and as Jesus quoted, the end would not yet be, because this was just the beginningof sorrows. But throughout history we have seen the “pangs” (signs) become more frequent and intense, culminating in the day we live in now where the pangs are so frequent and intense that we must be right at the time of “delivery”, when Jesus is to return. So don’t let anyone fool you into believing that the signs today are just the beginning of sorrows and the end is not yet.

Hebrews 1:1-2 …’God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.’

“The beginning of sorrows” started nearly 2000 years ago with the persecution of the early church and the destruction of Jerusalem. We are living right at the end of time.

Historical Evidence – Daniel 2

Daniel 2 Image Nebuchadnezzar

Daniel 2:31-45 ..’Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image .. This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet … Thou art this head of gold … And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron … And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided … Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter.’

More than being a “sign” of the times, this is an historical FACT of where we stand in earth’s history. The vision that God gave King Nebuchadnezzar as shown in the Bible verses above, and subsequently the interpretation to the prophet Daniel, consisted of an image of a man which depicted all the “ages” and ruling kingdoms from the time of Babylon until the second coming of Christ Jesus (the destroying Rock, which is the eternal kingdom of God).

By the way, if you are not convinced that the Bible is any sort of authority, then study the prophecy of Daniel 2. It perfectly foretold the future kingdoms of this world up until the end of time. And history confirms it as ACCURATE.

As you can see from the picture, the different parts of the man represented the different “ages” and ruling kingdoms of this world. And what is the last “age”? It’s the feet of the image. And when did the last age start? It started in the year 476 AD. when Rome fell and split into the ten kingdoms of Europe. Which means this world has been in the “last age” for over 1500 YEARS! So add that to the amazing signs of the last days that you will see throughout this site, and you are left with no doubt that we are living right at the end of the toes on the image and right at the end of time, soon to see the second coming of Christ Jesus.

End Time Sign – WORLD NOW PREACHING END OF HUMANITY SOON!

High likelihood of human civilisation coming to end by 2050, report finds – Human civilisation as we know it may have already entered its last decades, a worrying new report examining the likely future of our planet’s habitability warns. The increasingly disastrous impacts of the climate crisis, coupled with inaction to tackle it are sending our planet down a bleak path towards an increasingly chaotic world which could overwhelm societies around the globe, the report’s authors contend.” (source)

When the world starts ‘preaching’ that the end of humanity is near, it shows we must be very near the end! There has never been a time like this before where fear and uncertainty of the future ruled the day. Yes, there has been fear and uncertainty about the future during times like the world wars. But never have we heard such words like “end of humanity” being proclaimed by the world. Satan knows that Jesus Christ is coming back soon to put an end to this wicked world. Satan knows that the judgments and plagues of God are soon to fall, so he is deceiving the world with this climate change agenda, which was conceived by the Club of Rome. But this just shows how close we are to the return of Christ.

End Time Sign – DANIEL 11 AND KING OF THE NORTH

Daniel 11:45 …’And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.’

Now the very next verse in Daniel 12:1 says … ‘And at that time shall Michael stand up’, indicating the close of probation and final time of trouble before Jesus returns. At what time? At the time that the ‘he’ in Daniel 11:45 plants the tabernacles of his palace in between the seas in the glorious holy mountain, which is Jerusalem in Israel. The ‘he’ in this Bible verse is the king of the north. And if you read our page on the king of the north, and study this for yourself, you will see that the king of the north is Turkey and Islam. And what does Daniel 11:45 say Turkey and Islam are going to do? Plant the tabernacles of his palace in Jerusalem. In other words, Turkey and Islam are going to ‘move into’ Jerusalem to take control. Do we see anything like that happening today?

So as you can see, this is very much on the table today! And with Donald Trump [being led by his Evangelical advisors] moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, this is going to anger Turkey and the Muslims even more. So keep watch for this sign, as it will be an indication that probation is about to end, the time of trouble will begin and Jesus will be about to return!

End Time Sign – INCREASE OF KNOWLEDGE

Daniel 12:4 …’even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.’

I Just love this sign, because it is clearly pointing to our day today, and it cannot be refuted by anyone. Throughout history we have had a slow and little increase in knowledge. But take a look at the EXPLOSION of knowledge over the past 150 years! Up until recently in history, the fastest form of transport was a horse. Now man can travel at hundreds of miles per hour, and cross the globe in a day! Technology has developed at a rapid pace, which has led to great improvements in computer power, scientific discoveries and the medical profession. Just look at how much we have learned about the human body with things like DNA and Cellular Structures etc. And how about “running to and fro”? This is pointing specifically to our day with planes, trains, automobiles and the busyness of modern day life. We are definately running to and fro and have knowledge like no time before us.

“run to and fro and knowledge increase” applies also to knowledge of Bible truths …

This Bible sign has a dual application“running to and fro and knowledge increase” also applies to knowledge of Biblical truths (see Amos 8:12). During the “dark ages”, for over 1000 years, knowledge of Biblical truths were surpressed by the Roman Catholic Church. But since the protestant reformation and breakaway from Rome, God’s people have been running to and fro in His Word FREELY and knowledge about great Bible truths have been revealed. God now has an end time remnant church with the FULL gospel truth to take to the world before the end comes, which was needed to fulfill the sign about taking the true gospel message to the whole world. Which you will read about further down the page.

End Time Sign – ABILITY TO ENFORCE THE MARK

Revelation 13:17 …’And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.’

Now this is a sign that most people miss! Have a think about it … What needs to happen in order for the “beast system” to stop people from buying and selling if they refuse the mark? We need to have a worldwide financial system whereby everything bought and sold is through electronic means, not cash.

Has there been any time in history where this could happen? No. Are WE living in a day where this could happen? Most certainly, yes! And the powers of this world are now trying to make cash obsolete, and are actively pushing pure electronic forms of payment, like “PayPal” and “Google Wallet” for instance. Take a look at the news and you will see this being reported in different countries of the world.

Above is just a few examples of the major push throughout the world for a cashless society. We have the techonology to do this now, which in times past wasn’t possible. And look at the financial turmoil around the world today. This will help in bringing in a “unified” currency to help make it possible to enforce the mark of the beast. Technology isn’t the mark, but technology is needed for proper enforcement of it. This is a SURE sign of the end times!

End Time Sign – MAN OF SIN REVEALED

2 Thessalonians 2:3 …’Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.’

Paul here is saying that “THAT DAY”, the second coming of Christ, will not come until the falling away happens and that man of sin is revealed. Now many professed Christians today believe that the ‘falling away’ is something that will happen in the last days. But this is a wrong view, because the falling away began not long after the New Testament church and was completely fulfilled when the Roman Catholic Church took control and merged Christianity with Paganism, and punished anyone who did not bow to her so called ‘authority’ and false teachings. And that man of sin who was “revealed” to the world during the Protestant reformation is none other than the pope(s) of the Roman Catholic Church.

See proof of who the man of sin is HERE.

So, the falling away has happened and the man of sin HAS been revealed. Therefore the second coming of Christ can happen and this shows we are living in the end times.

End Time Sign – VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL IMMORALITY

Matthew 24:37 …’But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.’

Luke 17:28-30 …’Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.’

What was it like in Noah’s day and Lot’s day? We need to go to two other Bible verses to see what it was like. Genesis 6:13 tells us that in Noah’s day the “earth was filled with violence.” And in Jude 1:7 it says that in Lot’s day, Sodom and Gomorrha had given itself over to “fornication and strange flesh”. So violence prevailed in Noah’s day and sexual immorality (including homosexuality) prevailed in Lot’s day. And this would be a sign of the end times before Christ Jesus returns.

2016 – MURDERS RISE IN 29 OF THE LARGEST CITIES IN AMERICA IN 2016

So our question is, does violence and sexual immorality (including homosexuality) prevail in the world today? Very much so, yes! Not only does violence and fornication rage across the whole world, homosexuality has become a “norm”. Since 2001, 29 countries have legalized homosexual marriage(source). And there are more countries being added to this list all the time.

Today, the world is FULL of violence and sexual immorality. You only need turn the tv on and you will see violence, fornication and homosexuality everywhere. The cities of the world today are especially bad and are no longer safe places to be.

What are we told in Jude 1:7? We are told that what God did to Sodom was set forth as an example to us today. And what did God do to the people of Sodom? He DESTROYED them with fire because of their wickedness, which included homosexuality!

End Time Sign – RISE IN SPIRITUALISM

1 Timothy 4:1 …’Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.’

How about a rise in spiritualism and the occult in the world? Have we seen this? Well, just look at the television and movies today. “Twilight”, “Harry Potter”, “Lord of the Rings”, and a whole host of other television series and movies containing the occult and spiritualism. It has invaded our lives like no other time before us. And what is the cause of this? It is the false teaching of the immortality of the ‘soul’.

Spiritualism is also the cause of these ‘near death experiences‘ which Satan is deceiving more and more people with.

Many people don’t realize that spiritualism has also invaded the majority of churches around the world, due to this false teaching of the immortality of the soul. Yet the Bible clearly teaches that “the dead know NOTHING” (Ecclesiastes 9:5), and that when we die we return to the dust of the ground from where we came (Genesis 3:19). But the churches have embraced this false teaching of the immortal soul, which is another sign of the times we live in.

“A belief in spiritual manifestations opens the door to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, and thus the influence of evil angels will be felt in the churches.” (The Great Controversy, p.603-604)

See the truth HERE about what happens when we die.

End Time Sign – MASS ANIMAL DEATHS

Hosea 4:3 …’Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.’

This one has become a fairly recent phenomenon. During the last few years we have seen fish, birds and other animals die in huge numbers. Since 2010, millions of fish have been turning up dead in lakes, rivers and the sea, with this deadly red tide partly to blame. Also, Birds have been dropping out of the sky in huge numbers. And we are seeing other unusual animal deaths all around the world. Including Bees and Bats dying in their millions.

“Mass animal die-offs are on the rise, killing billions and raising Questions.” (source)

The Honey Bee crisis deepens as evidence shows there has been a dramatic increase in die offs .. up to 50 percent of Bees are dying now, creating worry over food supply. (source)

The book of Hosea not only applied to the nation of Israel. It also applies to our day and contains prophecies concerning the state of the world we live in today. So is this text from Hosea fulfilled in our day? Is it a sign of the end times? Yes!

End Time Sign – NATURAL DISASTERS

Luke 21:25-26 …’and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.’

Natural Disasters

So what about this Biblical sign? Is this being fulfilled in our day more than any other day before us? Most definately. Just look at all the natural disasters we are getting now every year. (CLICK ON THE IMAGE FOR A CHART SHOWING A TWOFOLD INCREASE OVER THE PAST 30 YEARS) Are the “seas and waves roaring”? Yes. Tens and even hundreds of thousands of people are being wiped out from Tsunamis and floods, and men’s hearts are certainly fearing what is happening to this world. In America in 2010, a record was set for the number of Federal Disaster Declarations given over a year. That number was 81. In 2011, that number was broken again, with 99 Disaster Declarations given, costing over 32 Billion Dollars. And 2012 produced another year of record breaking disasters. Dr. Robert Hartwig states … “The number of U.S. disaster declarations has been trending sharply upward, particularly over the past 15 years.” (Source) … We are really seeing things happening in this world now with regards to the fulfillment of Bible prophecy today.

May 2019 – “US like a ‘war zone’ after 500 tornadoes in 30 days! – Breaking 40 year record”. (Source)

End Time Sign – EARTHQUAKES

Matthew 24:7 …’and earthquakes in divers places.’

The scoffers love to bash this one, but from the evidence available, it is clear that earthquakes are not only increasing in frequency, but also appearing in more and more “diverse places”, which the Bible predicted.

Remember, these signs are to intensify during the last days, and that is exactly what is happening with earthquakes.

Take a look at the following information and judge for yourself.

New Zealand felt a record 32,000 earthquakes in 2016 – link

We had a ‘millenium’s worth’ of earthquakes in just 2 years, during 2014 and 2015 (source).

Big earthquakes have doubled in 2014 compared to each year since 1979 (source).

A global SURGE in great earthquakes between 2004 – 2014. (source).

Current graphs clearly show an alarming worldwide trend of increasing earthquake strength and frequency. These results are in agreement with the USGS statistics page, which shows an increase in the frequency of stronger earthquakes (M > 5.0).” (source)

A series of massive quakes within 2 days in 2012 prompted an earthquake expert to suggest that the earth is “cracking up” (link)

As of June 2019, there were around 3,353 earthquakes happening a month. (Link)

God is giving us plenty of warning through these events, and we will be without excuse if that day of Christ’s return comes upon us like a thief in the night and catches us unaware. We need to heed the signs and get ready!

Please see these amazing videos showing a graphical look into the earthquakes around the world. Christ said that there would be earthquakes in “diverse” places, and these amazing videos certainly fulfills that prophecy.

End Time Sign – UNSEALED PROPHECY

Daniel 12:4 …’But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end.’

This sign carries on from the “increase in knowledge” sign above. But I wanted to separate it to show you that this sign alone reveals we are living in the last days. God tells Daniel to seal the book. In other words, to seal the prophecies contained within it. And that at the “time of the end”, the prophecies would be unsealed and we would know what they mean.

The prophecies of Daniel 2 and 7 have been UNSEALED ←←

Daniel’s 70 week prophecy has been UNSEALED ←←

The 2300 day prophecy has been UNSEALED ←←

So this alone confirms that we are living in the end times. But taking all the other signs together will show us how close we are to the second coming of Christ Jesus, the Son of the living God, and the end of the world.

Please see our END TIME PROPHECY website for many more Bible prophecy truths.

End Time Sign – FALSE CHRISTS and PROPHETS

Matthew 24:4-5,11 …’many shall come in My Name, saying, I am Christ … and many false prophets shall arise and deceive many.’

We’ve certainly had our fair share of false Christ’s appearing around the world. Also, today we have many false religions proclaiming many ways to eternal life, like Roman Catholicism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Folk Religions, Wicca, and many other ‘new age’ movements. With false prophets like the Pope, Muhammad, Krishna, Buddha, etc., leading these religions.

We also have many false prophets and leaders in “Christian” churches, like the the prosperity gospel preachers and people like Oprah Winfrey leading these new age movements. And millions of people have been sucked in and deceived by these ‘false prophets’. There are also many who appear to be ‘sheep leading the flock’ but in fact are ‘inwardly ravening wolves’ leading the people to destruction. People like Rick Warren who preach just enough truth to lull the unlearned mind into following them into apostasy! Yes, this sign has certainly been fulfilled.

Please prayerfully seek the truth yourself, by studying the Word of God in the Bible.

End Time Sign – WORLD PUSHING FOR PEACE

1 Thessalonians 5:3 …’For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.’

Is this sign being fulfilled in our day? Yes. There is an ecumenical movement today which we were told about in end times prophecy that is uniting the world in an effort to bring peace. Churches and faiths and political leaders are uniting like never before in an effort to bring peace to this world. But this ecumenical movement is not of God, because we as God’s people are not to unite with the world or any false religion (Amos 3:3, 2 Corinthians 6:17, Revelation 18:4). When they do declare “peace and safety” then destruction will come upon them (1 Thessalonians 5:3).

End Time Sign – WAR

Matthew 24:6-7 …’And ye shall hear of wars … For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom.’

Many people say that this isn’t a sign of the end times, because there have been wars since the beginning. Yes there have been wars since the beginning, but when you look at the frequency and intensity of wars, then it’s plain to see that this is a sign of the times we are living in. During the 20th century alone, more people have been killed as a result of war than all previous centuries combined. This has resulted in HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of people being killed in wars like World War I, World War II, Russian Civil War, Congo War, Korean War, Vietnam War, Iraq, etc. Today, there are conflicts and wars raging all around the world (Source). And in 2011, armed conflicts greatly increased according to this report.

So is war a sign for today? Of course is it. But remember, we are not to take any of these signs ON THEIR OWN. Jesus said … “when ye shall see allthese things, know that it is near”. (Matthew 24:33). Taking one sign like this on it’s own will not prove we are living in the last days. All signs need to be fulfilled.

End Time Sign – FAMINE

Matthew 24:7 …’and there shall be famine.’

Signs End Times Famine

Just look at the famine that has struck the world over the past 30 years. Thousands die everyday of starvation and according to this news article global starvation is spreading and increasing causing 1 Billion people to go hungry around the world. Add to that the failed crops throughout the world because of extreme weather, and bees dying off in massive numbers, and we have a worldwide shortage of food on it’s way.

Not only that, we have the likes of Monsanto who are poisoning the crops that are left!

2.4 BILLION people survive on less than 2 dollars per day!

The sad thing about this sign, is that the amount of food that is wasted in the developed world could feed the hungry! So think about those in need next time you are about to fill up your shopping trolley with food that will be wasted. The Bible teaches us that we need to be helping the poor and needy, by giving them of our bread and clothing. Rather than throwing away what we don’t want or need.

End Time Sign – CHRISTIANS BEING KILLED

Matthew 24:9-10 …’Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.’

Christians were being killed for their faith in the first century, as well as during the dark ages when the Roman Catholic Church ruled the world and killed tens of millions of God’s people. This is being repeated today in places like the Middle East, China, North Korea, Pakistan, India, Nigeria, Egypt, where many Christians are being killed for their faith in Christ Jesus everyday. And once the mark of the beast is enforced soon, then this persecution will spread to the Western World.

End Time Sign – INCREASE IN SIN

Matthew 24:12 …’And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.’

Idolatry, Adultery, Violence, Lust, Greed, Disrespect, Homosexuality, Theft, Lying, Aggression, Selfishness. Is this Biblical sign fulfilled in our day? Absolutely! Just go back 50 years and you would not see half the sin and wickedness that we see in people today. Look at what is portrayed on our TV screens and in the movies and video games! Violence, lust and all manner of evil. This is one of the major end of time signs. Our world today is aching under the burden of sin and I’m sure God will not allow it to continue for much longer.

And do you know the worst thing about “sin” today? It is made into “ENTERTAINMENT”! Through movies, television programs, radio, magazines, comics, you name it! The majority of people in this world today, including professed Christians are happily entertained by the very thing that put the Son of God on the cross! What an abomination!

And please note, I am not just talking about the sins of non Christians. A sure sign that we are living in the end times is the fact that the Christian churches are full of unconverted, sin loving people! Many of them thinking they don’t need to keep the ten commandments, and can continue living in sin, as long as they “believe” in Jesus and go to church once a week. Yes, iniquity has abounded!

End Time Sign – CHRISTIANS TURN AWAY FROM TRUTH

2 Timothy 4:3-4 …’For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.’

This sign of the times has certainly been fulfilled in our generation. A great majority of professing Christians these days do not study the Bible much. Instead they just rely on their pastor’s word as the truth. Let me give you an example. Back during the Protestant reformation, where many people died standing up for the truth of God’s Word. God revealed a great truth to the world about who the antichrist was. All of the reformers knew the truth about the Roman Catholic Church being the Bible antichrist. But as time has gone on and false teachers have crept into the churches, the majority of Protestants now reject this great truth that God opened up to the early Protestant leaders, and they now EMBRACE that antichrist church and have become a part of Babylon!

The above end time sign from Timothy also says that they would be turned unto fables. Let me give you a few fables that the majority of Christians have been turned to. 1. The rapture. 2. Looking to Israel for fulfillment of end times prophecy. 3. Mark of the beast being a microchip. 4. The Battle of Armageddon being a physical battle. And there are many more.

Please see our prophecy site for the truth on these topics.

Great and precious truths were opened to the people of the Protestant reformation, but the reformation failed because the people did not continue seeking the truth. Although God does have a remnant church with the full gospel truth, we now live in a day where the majority have turned away from the truth and been turned to fables. This sign of the end times has certainly been fulfilled in our generation.

End Time Sign – GOD DESTROY THOSE WHO DESTROY EARTH

Revelation 11:18 …’And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.’

Are the nations angry today? Yes, we have uprisings, conflicts and wars ALL OVER the earth. And what about man destroying the earth? Well, all throughout history, the most dangerous weapon that man had was a bow and arrow. Man could not do much damage to the earth. But now just look at what man can do and IS doing to the earth through industry, destructive weapons of war, chemicals, oil exploration, depletion of the forests and so on. Just look at the massive oil spills that have happened during the past 30 years around the world. The rivers and seas are becoming completely polluted, and man is certainly destroying the earth like no other time in history, and God’s wrath is about to fall upon them!

We have been living in the time of judgment since 1844 and once the judgment has ended, THEN Christ Jesus will return to “reward” the saints and “destroy those who destroy the earth”.

End Time Sign – GOSPEL PREACHED TO WORLD

Matthew 24:14 …’And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.’

Notice Jesus said “THIS” gospel? There are many “gospels” being preached out there, but it is the TRUE GOSPEL that is to be preached to the world before the end can come. So is this being fulfilled today as one of the end time signs? Yes, because God’s people are preaching the true gospel throughout the world like never before, through the internet, tv and satellite, radio, in the pulpit, and through print. We have never had the resources available before to reach the world the way we can now. This ministry alone receives thousands of visits everyday from people from all over the world seeking the truth. So yes, this Bible sign is BEING fulfilled now.

What end time message is God’s true servants taking to the world today? THE EVERLASTING GOSPEL OF REVELATION 14

Take a look at this interesting quote from the 1980’s … “Before the final end, the world is to hear the message of the Lord’s coming. Had no more rapid means of conveyance and communication been found than existed a century ago, it would have been impossible to communicate such a message to one generation. But such a work must be done for the last generation … Then the last generation everywhere must hear the message, and this calls for rapid transit, and lightning couriers to bear the tidings to various parts of the earth.” (Bible Readings for the Home, 1988 Ed.)

And what do we have now for “rapid transit” of the gospel message around the world? The internet and satellite! We are living in a time like no other and the gospel message is soon to reach the final corners of the earth, and THEN the final stages of this earth’s history will take place.

But what about all the different languages you may say? Well, ministries like Faith Comes by Hearing provides a free audio app that shares the Bible in 883 languages! And that number is growing all the time. So yes, the languages of the world are being reached with the Word of God.

For more end time signs and even more evidence that we are living in the last days, please see End of World Signs.

I hope that you can see from the above Biblical signs of the end times that our generation is truly living in the last days, nearing the second coming of Christ Jesus. We are living in a time like no other. The world is being turned upside down and we need to get ready! If you are not a Christian and you realize that we are living in the end times and are wondering what you need to do, then please click here to see what you must do to be saved. Give your heart to Christ Jesus. He is about to return to bring judgment upon the whole world.

5 Crude Emergency Wilderness Survival Shelters

Shelter: An essential element of survival – along with clothing, food, and water, of course. When we think of shelter, usually the first thing that pops into our minds are our homes, apartments, condo’s, and houses. In an emergency or rescue scenario, shelter may not be such a warm and comfortable place.

Being exposed in the wilderness can leave us open to all sorts of harmful elements, from extreme heat and cold to wind, rain, and snow. Exposure can quickly turn the odds against you when it comes to injuries, illness, wild animals and other dangers. You should always know how to construct a survival shelter out of materials found in nature. This can really save your behind if an emergency were ever to occur that left you stranded with no tent or existing structures for shelter. Whether you get lost in the woods while hiking or stranded in the mountains during a skiing trip, who knows exactly when, where, or why you might need to build a impromptu survival shelter. With the crazy stuff happening in the world all around us on a daily basis, it couldn’t hurt to have mental blueprints – just in case.

In this video, i will unearth a long-forgotten secret that helped our ancestors survive famines, wars, economic crisis, diseases, droughts and anything else life trew at them.
So pay chose attention because this video will change your life forever for the good!

Here are 5 quick and crude emergency shelters for wilderness survival:

1. Lean-To

lean-to

This is one of the most popular types of shelters for any survival situation. It’s best to look for an area without any heavy branches above, just in case something may fall on your lean-to in the middle of the night. However, if there is a natural ‘wall’ nearby, you may want to use it to your advantage. For example, a tree that has fallen over baring its roots may be useful as a shelter wall against weather or to direct heat from a fire into the lean-to opening.

Nearby vines can be used as rope, if you don’t have any cordage with you. The first step would be to build the support beam. The easiest way is

to simply find two trees about 10 feet apart from one another and mount a thick branch or limb between them. This will need to hold a fair amount of weight, such as water if it’s raining or snow if it’s snowing. Keep this in mind and test the weight of your design often. Next, you prop branches and wood up at an angle and tie them to the support to act as the main wall. You’ll want to be able to sit or lie down, so try to keep your lean-to branches at about a 45 degree angle. If the weather is severe, you may want to use a steeper angle to keep leaking to a minimum (the closer the better to keep debris from slipping through your branches).

Shovel any nearby debris into a pile on top of your lean-to. Add layers of leaves, pine needles and any other form of insulation you can forage. Throw on an additional layer of sticks, twigs, and finally bark to keep your insulation from blowing away and to somewhat waterproof the shelter. (Here are 23 survival uses for honey that you didn’t know about.)

You can use several different types of materials to construct a more efficient lean-to, such as a tarp, poncho, or mylar emergency blankets. If you have any materials that can waterproof your wall (tarps, plastic sheeting, ponchos, trash bags, etc.) use them. If you repeat this process to the left and right sides of your shelter it will help keep the weather out even more. The lean-to shelter is very open, so it can be great in warm, sunny areas with very little inclement weather as it offers a shade from the sun and basic protection from the elements. However, not ideal if you expect severe weather, a colder environment, or camping out in the unknown where you don’t know what (or who) is watching.

2. Debris Hut

debris-hut

This wedge shaped survival shelter is fairly easy to construct, especially if you are in a wooded area and debris is easily accessible. First you will need to gather a LOT of natural debris. Think leaves, long grass, and pine needles. You should be able to find plenty of the following, even under thinner layers of snow

Next, look for a large pole-like log which is about twice your own height for use as a ridge-pole. The straighter the ridge-pole, the better your shelter will turn out. From here, you will want to locate two nearby “Y” shaped  branches and prop the pole up with them so your ridge-pole sits at about your pelvic level. You could also us a tree stump or anything else capable of supporting one end of the ridge-pole at the appropriate height. Your ridge-pole should be about the size of your wrist or larger. You don’t want breakable pieces that are rotting and cracking. You want something sturdy that will support the various materials used for insulation. You may want to lie down under your structure to make certain it’s long enough for you to fit without knocking the whole thing over.

Next, search for sticks and limbs which are at least two fingers thick (or again as thick as your wrist). Imagining your “rib bones”, position sticks along the length of your ridge-pole about 6″ apart. After this step has been completed you should begin collecting smaller sticks and dead branches that still have leaves. Line your debris hut survival shelter with them for added protection against the wind and weather. Finish by adding a layer of leaves, grass, and any other debris you can wrangle up. Pile it on thick. Finally, add some large pieces of bark on top of everything. This can somewhat protect your shelter against the rain or snow and help keep the “debris” in place.

When you are ready to retire for the evening, simply climb inside and stomp down any poky branches. Use any soft leftover debris for a bedding area. This structure is great for camouflage and blending in with your natural environment. Also provides full-body protection from most elements, and pretty effective at warding off unwanted guests such as racoons.

3. A-Frame

a-frame

If you aren’t a fan of the lean-to, the A-frame (also known as a double lean-to) may also give you trouble since it’s basically the same structure with an additional wall. You will need to find a straight branch about 10′ long as a means of support. I would suggest using two poles propped up against and tied to the main backbone branch on each side as support. Vines or animal sinew can also be used as a natural cordage.

Use the main backbone branch to hold the support limbs together at the top of your frame (like an A). Tie all 3 together at the point where they meet. This will be the framework for your walls. Again, gather smaller sticks/wood to create the walls and debris to “mud” each side of your shelter. That’s it. The result is somewhat of a cross between the debris hut and lean-to. The debris hut is smaller and forces you to sit much closer to the ground.

Unlike the lean-to, an A-frame shelter can be built to be self-supported by its two walls if you have enough cordage to tie together the majority of your wood or can gather enough “forked” wood pieces so the walls can interlock. A normal lean-to requires some sort of support structure to be either built or suspended between two trees.

Preparedness Hacks: Once a nuke is heading your way, you might think that there isn’t much left to do, but you would be wrong!

Because we will show you America’s natural nuclear bunkers that are also EMP proof. When the sirens start wailing, all you need to do is pick the closest one to your home, where you can take cover before it hits.

4. Quinzee Snow Hut

Quinzee

If you find yourself in a situation where you are surrounded by large amounts of snow in temperatures below freezing and have no where to go, consider building yourself a quinzee. This type of shelter requires a bit more time and manual labor than the previous examples. That’s to be expected as it will need to stand up to cold temperatures, wind, and snow. A simple debris structure would collapse under the weight of heavy snowfall. You will probably need to build an alternative form of shelter for the first night, as you must let your snow-hut sit awhile before completion. Try one of the above methods while you are waiting – you still need a place for warmth in the mean time.

To construct a Quinzee, you must first case out a large, open area with plenty of snow. Consider how many people will need to fit inside before you begin. When you’ve got a number in mind, begin digging and packing together a snow pile as high and wide as you feel necessary. Not too high though. That will just create unnecessary work, the last thing you need in such an extreme environment. It should be just large enough to fit you and any tools or resources you happen to have. Next, let your snow mound “sit” over night. This is VERY IMPORTANT for structural sturdiness. Once a few hours have passed begin digging a hole in the middle of your mound, at the very bottom.

Once you’ve been digging for a while, you will be able to climb inside of your mound to complete the process (think igloo). Try to leave the structure a consistent thickness of about 24″. Be sure to add a small ventilation hole in your structure for air to circulate. For this next step you need a small source of heat inside the Quinzee. You can either start a very small fire or use lanterns if you have them. Once your heat source has been going for about 2-3 hours, shut it off. The snow walls will have partially melted and this moisture will refreeze into one solid structure. This process can allow your Quinzee to last an entire season if needed (assuming temps stay at or below freezing). You will want some form of insulation (like hay) to line the floor to prevent having direct contact. It can quickly become icy and dangerous to sit or sleep on.

5. Round Lodge

round-lodge

I consider this type of shelter a hybrid between the tipi, wigwam and debris hut. A round lodge provides excellent protection from the weather; including cold, rain, wind, snow, and sun.

It is built by slanting a large number (dozen or so) of tall poles together in a circular fashion and fastening them together at the top where they all meet using grass, vines, or sinew. The walls can then be thatched with grass, hay, or other suitable materials at hand. Shaped like a funnel, the round lodge is much larger in diameter at the base and gradually narrows toward the top.

Built in a tipi-like manner, this survival structure will typically have a “smoke hole” at the top of the roof for ventilation. Due to their large size and vent hole at the top, a round lodge shelter is ideal for accommodating small fires for heat, light, and protection from wild animals.

Jobs will disappear… maybe not tomorrow or the day after, but eventually technology will render us irrelevant to the economy… and all that will be left will be our quest for purpose

“I predict the Internet will soon go spectacularly supernova and in 1996 catastrophically collapse.”

~ – Robert Metcalfe, 1995 (founder of Ethernet and 3Com)

The Internet

Imagine… 20 years ago, experts debated whether the internet was just a fad. A novelty that would quickly die…

Today we’re debating the entire future of work.

How about this one?

“There’s no chance the iPhone is going to get any significant market share.”

That was Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft in April of 2007…

It seems obvious to us now… but in the era of flip-phones, people did not consider the iPhone a contender.

And it’s not just Steve Ballmer of Microsoft…

BlackberryMotorolla and Nokia didn’t take the Apple threat serious either…

That’s a lot of high-ranking industry insiders who dropped the ball.

Remember Kodak?

What about Blockbuster Video?

From television and telephones, to airplanes and personal computers… many people “in the know” have been dismissive towards new technology.

And it’s happening again…

As we stumble our way into an economy of artificial intelligence and advanced automation, you’ll hear the naysayers…

“it’s still decades away”, “the future of work won’t be the problem people think”

… and of course… “jobs may be lost, but they’ll be replaced by new and better jobs”.

Will they?

To the experts who say jobs lost to A.I. and automation will be replaced with new and better jobs… I say bullshit!

Will there be new jobs we haven’t yet imagined?

Of course…

But how do they define the word “replace”?

To think millions of unemployed people in one industry, can simply pack their bags, sell their homes and start fresh tomorrow morning in a new industry is absolutely ridiculous.

Their jobs aren’t being replaced. They’re being left to fend for themselves in the vague hope that the market will correct itself…

Experts can’t even predict what tomorrow’s jobs will be, so they sure as hell can’t claim that people’s jobs will be replaced.

How many unemployed factory workers in the 90’s were saved from the rise of Silicon Valley?

abandoned factory

None… at least none of consequence.

California was ripe with new jobs in the tech industry during the late 90’s, but the broken and boarded up remains of a once thriving manufacturing industry still remain… 20 years later.

When you look at what really matters… people’s lives, the word “replaced” does not apply to the future of work.

A Job Created In One Industry, Does Not Replace a Job Lost In Another…

While listening to serious discussions about the future of work (like this one…)

… you will hear some so-called experts say things like, “It’s true… driverless vehicles will eliminate most truck and delivery drivers… but don’t worry, there’s a huge shortage of computer programmers.”

What?

Here’s the problem. These are people who,

  1. Believe the invisible hand of the market fixes all, and…
  2. That economies matter more than individuals.

But that’s not how reality works.

Sure… a thousand jobs over here to “compensate” for a thousand jobs lost over there might keep “the economy” balanced… which is really all they care about…

But, what about individuals who become unemployed and lose their entire income? What about those who lose their homes, or cash in their children’s education fund just to survive?

Where is their balance

So… in my opinion, a new job here does not replace a job lost there…

It’s Just Another False Alarm

To be clear, there are a lot of important people who are taking the future of work seriously.

The people who make decisions though… the ones who walk the halls of government, the economists who advise those in positions of power…

Those people have been taking a “wait and see” approach.

Here’s their logic…

It’s business as usual. Jobs have been lost before, and we survived just fine.

They say our fears are unfounded and that people have been sounding this false alarm for centuries. It’s not a big deal and will almost certainly work itself out.

Well… first, this time IS different… and second, it hasn’t always worked itself out.

This Time… It IS Different

In the past, technology and machines have replaced “jobs”… but not humans.

We’re fast approaching a tipping point though…

Until now, machines and algorithms lacked the complexity and dexterity of humans… as well as the ability to identify and process abstract information, such as images.

Machines lacked general logic, and the ability to reason…

These are all deficiencies that drew a line between “them” and “us”… and there was never a threat to our dominance in the workplace.

But that’s no longer true. The walls are closing in. Technology is advancing exponentially… but we humans are not.

For the first time in history, technology (AI) and machines (robots) are not only matching our abilities, but surpassing them.

From an economic point of view, machines and artificial intelligence will replace humans… not just jobs.

And that’s not good for a society that values it’s humans by their ability to produce and earn money.

Martin Ford, author of Rise of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future, in his Ted Talk (below) discusses a class of worker who at the beginning of the 20th century experienced what it was like to be replaced…

The horse…

The steam engine, first built in 1698, replaced some jobs previously performed by horses…

…but the steam engine did not replace our equestrian friends entirely.

For another 200 years… they still had a job to do.

Then came the internal combustion engine, and the automobile… which was the tipping point for horses.

Some might argue horses no longer having to work is a good thing, but from a purely economic perspective, the “horseless carriage” replaced more than their job… it replaced them entirely.

In 1915 the horse population was 22 million. By 1960, there were only 3 million.

The horse was completely irrelevant to the economy… and in many ways… irrelevant to society.

What does that say about humans who become irrelevant to the economy?

Will they also become irrelevant to society?

One could argue they already are.

The way homeless people are treated… or the unjustified dismissal of people who don’t “produce” as lazy and useless…

These are not good indicators of a bright future in a world with too few jobs.

We’ve Been Through This Before and Everything Worked Out Fine

The second argument… that it’s always worked out fine before… is false.

One common example used to “prove” it’s just another false alarm, is the Industrial Revolution…

When steam power and self-propelled machinery arrived in the late 1600’s and early 1700’s, people believed these new technologies would replace workers.

That did not happen… it’s true. Workers were not replaced.

And, naysayers correctly point out that new jobs were created and the economy grew like never before. Employment, wealth and production rose to an all time high.

Machines and Jobs

Nothing to worry about, right?

What “experts” ignore is that it took nearly 200 years before the world we know today emerged.

Talk about a long period of painful adjustment and unrest…

During the Industrial Revolution the world saw 2 major Communist revolutions2 World Warsand The Great Depression.

The death toll left behind by these major events is just shy of 100 million!

We didn’t just softly transition into modern times.

For thousands of years the world chugged along with relatively little change. A person alive 500 years ago would not be entirely uncomfortable living in the world 3000 years ago.

And then… in the blink of an eye during the Industrial Revolution, new global superpowers emerged and the Geo-political structure of the planet (again… which was relatively stable for thousands of years), was shaken unlike any other time in human history.

And, we’re not talking about ancient times here. There are people alive today who witnessed the tail end of that turmoil.

Just because we grew up in what is considered a stable time… does not mean we can take it for granted.

There is no guarantee they will continue from here on forward…

That also doesn’t mean we’re headed for a new age of darkness either… another World War, major Revolution, or a second Great Depression… but we’re also not immune to such events occuring.

Massive disruption has massive consequences…. and massive disruption is what’s coming over the next decade.

When discussing the challenge of today… it’s not as simple as saying new jobs will replace the ones that are lost.

This disruption is far more significant than that, and to dismiss the potential impact would be naïve.

The Future of Work Might Be No Work

The economic shift we’re heading for is often referred to as The Fourth Industrial Revolution, labeled by Professor Klaus Schwab in his book…“The Fourth Industrial Revolution”.

And, as Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, Professor Schwab knows a little about what we’re talking about.

He argues that the economic change we’re about to witness is unlike any other, and far more profound than those that came before.

And, it would be hard to disagree.

In the past we replaced animal and human labor with machines, and connected the world with electricity and telephone lines…

These were big changes which, in their own way, enabled tremendous violence, massive disruption, and political instability.

Today we’re witnessing a similar shock as physical, digital and biological technologies converge… reaching out into all economies, industries, governments and individuals… at the same time.

Whether we’re discussing drone technology, artificial intelligence, supercomputing, nanotechnology, 3D printing, DNA sequencing, autonomous vehicles, virtual reality… the scale and scope of our changing world is impossible to comprehend.

It’s overwhelming, which is why many are choosing to ignore it and hope it all works out for the best.

And, while this article talks about the economic disruption… the potential for military applications is absolutely terrifying.

The defense industry is one of the primary drivers of robotics and artificial intelligence. The advantages gained on the battlefield and in strategy rooms guarantees the relentless march forward to develop technologies that remove humans from the picture.

Here are just a few examples…

3D Printing

Just a few days ago CNBC published this article about Polymaker, an additive manufacturingcompany who just 3-D printed an electric car that costs $7,500, and took only three days to make.

From manufacturing and fossil fuel extraction, to lending institutions and shipping companies… this inexpensive electric car completely rewrites the rules of entire industries… with global implications.

But, the impact of 3D printing is even far greater.

It will transform the entire construction industry, ushering in a new a era of plug and play buildings. From 3D printed homes and office buildings, to the circuitry and plumbing embedded in the walls… jobs in the construction industry are at risk.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is not only threatening jobs that were once considered untouchable, but it’s forcing us to ask what it means to be human.

Engineers are at risk, as are professionals in legal and medical.

In general, people form their identities around the work they do… and nowhere is this more prevalent than in higher-education professions.

When AI beat chess grandmaster Gary Kasparov, he wrote about it as if he was describing death. And that was in 1997.

More recently, Google’s Deepmind, Alphago defeated 17 time world Go champion Lee Sedol. With more positions than there are atoms in the Universe, the game Go is widely considered to be the most complex and difficult games to beat.

You can watch the movie on Netflix and clearly see the psychological devastation this defeat had… not only on champion Lee Sedol, but by fans of the game and others who were beaten by Alphago.

So, when it comes to AI and the future of work, there is more than jobs to consider.

The psychological impact of spending years in school, only to be replaced by artificial intelligence that’s faster, smarter and more accurate than you, it’s a problem.

While algorithms capable of interpreting data and images thousands of times faster than a human are currently being used to “assist” medical professionals (such as radiologists and pathologists)… it’s not hard to imagine that over the next few years these algorithms will easily replace their human counterparts.

It’s even being suggested that leaving medical diagnostics to a human could eventually become morally unacceptable.

And it makes sense. A radiologist who looks at 20 – 100 x-rays a day might be able to compete with an AI today… but in a relatively short time (5 – 10 years) that algorithm, which can process thousands of images daily (24/7), and amalgamate the data instantly with other AI’s around the world to create a central database from which to draw experience from… will far surpass human capability.

If you ask anyone what makes humans the superior species, the answer will include intelligence…

We don’t know how to live in a world where we are not the most intelligent species… and that shift is potentially greater than any change in human history thus far.

Autonomous Vehicles

The same thing is happening with autonomous vehicles. Fully-autonomous vehicles, and semi-autonomous systems are currently collecting millions of miles worth of data which will be used to develop vehicle fleets that require no driver.

It’s not perfect, and recently one of Uber’s driverless cars was involved in a fatal collision with a pedestrian. But human drivers are not perfect either.

In fact, according to the World Health Organization… there are 1.2 million road accident related deaths with humans behind the wheel.

When comparing the number of incidences to number of miles driven… so far autonomous vehicles outperform us. And they will get better.

The number of jobs lost due to autonomous vehicles will be in the millions…

It’s not a matter of if, but when.

Virtual Reality

As far as jobs are concerned, virtual reality has flown under the radar.

But again, in a 5 – 10 year period, things are expected to change.

Take a University for example. The physical cost of a University is in the billions… from initial construction and renovations, to annual maintenance costs, parking facilities, road construction (for efficient access), and utilities such as water and sewage…

These are all costs paid for by tuition and taxes…

As virtual reality get’s closer to replicating the real world (and it’s impressive already), it’s expected we’ll see a rise in digital environments and buildings… such as Universities.

These will be digital buildings with all the detail of the real thing in which you can sit in class and talk with friends, hang out in study halls, endure long lectures and even ask your teacher questions…

And virtual reality goes so much further than what traditional schools are able to offer.

No longer are you confined to just a classroom. History class can take you back in time, geography right to the location. Virtual reality will transport you into the audience of historical speeches, deep into the oceans, and far into space.

Practical experience can be had where only theory was previously possible… and at a price that’s a fraction of today’s tuition costs.

When you count the cost savings of living at home, a digital education will be an attractive option for students.

Also, in an era when countries like the United States are talking about arming teachers with guns… many parents may prefer the safety of these digital schools.

And, when virtual reality is married with artificial intelligence… teaching jobs could be at risk.

Vivek Wadwa, Director of Research at The Center for Entrepreneurship and Research Commercialization at the Pratt School of Engineering, and co-author of The Driver in the Driverless Car: How Our Technology Choices Will Create the Future, paints a compelling picture of what teaching may look like in the near future.

As he describes it, artificial intelligence with human-like qualities (in his example, an AI named Clifford) will spend years with our children, learning and understanding their strengths and weaknesses.

Clifford will teach them math, music, art and many other subjects in virtual environments that make learning feel as though they’re playing games and living through history.

This may occur as he suggests alongside human educators, but it’s not difficult to imagine Clifford replacing a significant percentage of teachers.

Working in a digital environment will also replace your office. Why pay for an expensive downtown lease and compete locally with other businesses for experienced and talented employees?

Companies can create their own virtual offices and hire qualified employees from anywhere in the world… often paying them local wages which can benefit both the employer and the employee.

Like sitting in a real office, virtual reality will transport you and your co-workers into a digital office that looks and feels very close to the real thing.

Better in fact…

Your office view might be glacier lakes and rocky mountains. Board meetings can be held on beaches, or in locations relevant to the products you sell…

Staff will be more than happy to avoid busy commutes, as well the expense of daily travel.

But here’s the thing…

In addition to the buildings themselves… think of the infrastructure and services we currently use during our daily commutes.

Production of the vehicles we travel in, the workers who fix and maintain them, the roads we drive on, the places we stop to eat along the way…  They all represent a job at risk.

With fewer people commuting, the demand for fossil fuels will drop significantly. Great for the environment (essential perhaps)… but for those working in the oil industry (I was one of them)… it’ll be devastating.

We’re Just Getting Started…

All the technologies listed above already exist. They are NOT science fiction, nor are they concepts off in a distant future.

They are here now, and they are evolving quickly…

Their impact will not be immediate, but the change they thrust upon us will outpace our ability to adapt.

Also, with our current economic system it will be difficult (if not impossible) to stop them. Each one in there own way contributes to higher productivity and lower costs… and if one thing in business is guaranteed, it’s the march towards higher productivity and lower costs

But it’s not without a price.

As mentioned above… a trucker who loses his or her job to a driverless truck won’t just slide into a computer programming job.

These are real people who will struggle to put food on their table. It’ll induce anger and frustration and in some cases lead to serious societal issues such as alcoholism and violent crime.

Things may work themselves out in the end… but there will be a long period of adjustment.

And yet… this is just the tip of the iceberg, because we’re also moving into the realm of what was once considered science fiction…

For example, nanotechnology is bringing us materials such as graphene which is 200 times stronger than steel, harder than diamond, and extremely flexible.

Graphene Infographic

Here we are again with another technology that could completely transform our current methods of material production.

Another example is DNA sequencing. In the 90’s some “experts” were saying it would take hundreds of years to sequence the human genome… but it didn’t take hundreds of years. It didn’t even take a decade.

The human genome was sequenced in 2003.

In the mid-2000’s it would cost you $20 million or more to sequence your personal DNA… but by 2016, only 10 years later, you could have it done for under $1000.

Over the next decade you can expect DNA sequencing to tell us things about ourselves that were once impossible to know… and in the process completely alter areas of medicine and nutrition.

These changes don’t necessarily indicate jobs lost… but they will lead to a period of uncertainty as no one will be trained for the new jobs… whatever they turn out to be.

And here’s a big problem.. with everything else being taken over by AI and automation… with change happening at such a rapid pace, people will become reluctant to commit years of their lives becoming educated for a profession that might not even exist by the time they learn it.

Doing More With Less

It’s not just automation and 3D printing that will disrupt the manufacturing, packaging and shipping industries.

We can expect an overall reduction in manufacturing altogether, as we digitize our products. TV’s, handheld devices, and computers will eventually become holograms.

Imagine a single pair of glasses that replace several devices?

Augmented Reality (AR) such as Microsoft Hololense and Magic Leap are hoping to do just that.

Not only are they aiming to replace your phone, TV, computer, watch, and even trinkets around your house… they also plan to transport your friends and family directly into your home (as life-like holograms).

AR is already replacing clunky clay models and prototypes with digital ones, changing how engineers and designers work.

It will also revolutionize online shopping, overlaying products in your home like furniture and kitchen cabinets so you can see how they look before you buy.

If you’re thinking you’d never get rid of a “physical” product for a digital one… people were saying the same things about CD’s, DVD’s, computer storage, books, photographs… and even landline phones.

Holographic AR is amazing, with the added benefit of helping the environment…

One product that can replace several will cut back on demand for raw materials, the number of components needed to be manufactured (less energy, pollution and toxic byproducts), as well as fewer shipping containers floating around the world…

It’s also a huge cost benefit to consumers.

Technology has boiled what was once a million dollars worth of products (just 20 years ago), into an cheap smartphone today.

Holographic technology (as well as virtual reality) will take this a step further.

But as great as this is, people will still struggle because fewer products produced means fewer jobs, and more economic instability.

Without question, we can look forward to entirely new fields of employment not yet conceived, but those jobs (whatever they turn out to be) will provide little comfort to those who lose their jobs in the production and distribution of the products people no longer need.

We could go on, from drone technology and warehouse robots, to self-serve checkouts and online shopping.

Whether you believe we’ll have enough jobs to replace the old ones or not, we as a civilization are facing change unlike anything before.

And we’re NOT prepared for it…

Social Unrest and Inequality

As we talked about earlier, it took 200 years from the beginning of the industrial revolution to the time society and daily life settled into the world we know today.

The problems were facing now are similar, but in many ways far more profound.

As discussed above, technology is not only a threat to our jobs, but it’ll force us to re-evaluate what it means to be human.

If you’re simply thinking of new gadgets, it’s not too hard to imagine a world with these technologies…

But at deeper level, the implications point to a difficult transition.

One of our problems with new technology is that it’s expensive.

Since we’re talking about things that will bring giant leaps in productivity, and significant economic advantage in some way… those who can afford these technologies with set themselves further apart from those who can’t… leading to even greater inequality.

With inequality comes social unrest.

Take for example, biomedical enhancements. Medical science in the near future will enable those who can afford it to be “better than normal”.

Better than normal might mean higher intelligence, stronger resistance to illness and disease, and even the ability to live indefinitely.

All of these “enhancements” provide advantages to wealthy individuals and countries that in effect, lead to more wealth… while the rest of humanity is left behind.

The same is true for automation. While business owners use robots to increase their wealth through better productivity and reduced costs… the employees of those businesses will lose their jobs and fall further into financial hardship.

Factory Robots

Over time costs will come down, and technology often levels the playing field… (like Napster did to the music industry, or YouTube to video production and distribution companies).

But…in the meantime, the damage is done.

With economic turmoil and a widening gap between rich and poor, the potential for anger and violence is real… which would force governments to act aggressively towards their own people.

How this plays out is well beyond the scope of this article, but it’s necessary to point out that technological unemployment poses a serious risk to life as we know it… and the stability we’ve enjoyed for the last few generations is not guaranteed.

Universal Basic Income

Technological unemployment is such a concern that governments, as well as billionaires such as Elon Musk, Richard Branson and Mark Zuckerberg are speaking out in favor of a Universal Basic Income (UBI)…

The quick explanation of UBI is simply paying people to live.

While UBI is a hot button topic that elicits strong fears amongst some with visions of socialism, and lazy drug users sitting around playing video games all day, the reality is quite different.

Often viewed as a handout, proponents of Universal Basic Income point out that our societies have been build by those who came before us.

Put simply, none of us get rich in a vacuum… we are all standing on the shoulders of giants and whether you are rich or poor, you belong to a society built by our ancestors and are therefore entitled to a portion of it.

Also… as one of societies “producers”, your wealth was paid for by “consumers”.

So… just because you built a business and worked hard does not mean you achieved everything on your own. Your products were shipped on roads paid for by public funds. Your customers have money to spend because their income (from employment) was made possible by public education, and so on…

And, the things we typically attribute financial success to, like hard work and intelligence… are terrible indicators of a person’s monetary status.

We like to think the universe is fair… but the truth is, there are plenty of lazy people who are wealthy… and many who live in poverty who work extremely hard.

The idea that hard work leads to wealth is bullshit!

And there are many “jobs” (like stay-at-home Mom or Dad) that society has deemed unworthy of pay… but they are important jobs nonetheless.

A Universal Basic Income is simply a fair distribution of the commons, and recognizes that everyone contributes in their own way. It provides equal opportunity… not equal result.

Advantages to Universal Basic include (among others),

  • Better working conditions
  • Reduced inequality (and the social problems that come with inequality)
  • More balanced distribution of jobs
  • Less crime
  • Stronger democracy…

Having said that, UBI presents some challenges as well.

One of the questions that comes up is whether people will just become lazy and sit around smoking dope all day.

While research does not support this assumption, one area of concern is for teenagers attending school.

In general, studies show that UBI can lead to more meaningful work.

For example… without the burden of constantly chasing your next meal, people are far more likely to train for, and seek out work in areas that interest them; they’d take advantage of the time opportunity.

They may choose work that’s not only meaningful to them, but to society as well. It’s a lot easier to help others when your own needs are met.

This would also lead to a more entrepreneurial mindset, making UBI a strong case FOR capitalism, not against it.

However, this poses a problem for teenagers who are typically uncertain what they want to do with their lives, and are more interested in having fun…

What incentive do they have to learn and get good grades knowing their basic income will be provided when they graduate?

It’s been suggested that the amount of Basic Income is higher for those who do well in school… but then it’s no longer “Universal”.

It becomes a Conditional Basic Income, which takes away one of the advantages that UBI provides… which is the elimination of administrative costs for complex benefit programs.

Another issue with Universal Basic Income is that globally, it’s not really Universal. The same argument that we are all beneficiaries of the society we live in applies to everyone.

Our economic world is no longer defined by borders.

So, UBI is great if you live in a country that provides it… but what if your country doesn’t? The impact of technological unemployment still applies to you, no matter where you live on this planet.

There are the obvious right-left political issues to deal with (which will disappear as people on both sides become irrelevant to the economy). And then there are the industry titans and elites who’ll fight with their last breath to hang onto the status quo.

While the sentiment of UBI is great, putting into practice presents real challenges.

In addition to those listed above, another significant problem is determining how much?

And, how do you prevent landlords from raising rents to take it all… creating more inequality between home owners and renters?

It opens up an entirely new dialogue of rules and regulations…

Whether UBI is a viable answer to the future of work remains to be seen, but at least the conversation about how we should tackle the next decade has begun.

Final Thoughts

For thousands of years, very little had changed from generation to generation…

What your parents taught you (and what their parents taught them) applied directly to the world you lived in.

In the 20th century this was no longer true. The world you grew up in was in many ways dramatically different than the one your parents grew up in.

Today change is marked by decades… or even less. We don’t even know what the jobs of tomorrow will be, or if there will be enough to go around.

How do we prepare our children?

How do we prepare ourselves?

This is a serious issue, one of (if not the) most important of our lifetime.

While I think all ideas and suggestions to approach this challenge on a global scale are welcome, we need to first figure out how we can best deal with the future of work as individuals.

In my opinion, we need a new way of thinking.

It’s often said that the commodity of the future is information. For companies like Facebook and Google that might be true… but for individuals, I think it will be the ability to ask better questions. To solve problems.

Not math problems or puzzles… but situational problems. The ability to spot trends, ask what those trends mean, process the bigger picture, and act accordingly.

It’ll be the mindset of an entrepreneur, or freelancer… rather than the employee, doing mindless tasks and depending on regular paychecks.

More and more we’ll find it more difficult to lean on traditional institutions to earn a living. The world of tomorrow will not guarantee enough jobs to satisfy those who are willing to look for them.

And we certainly count on our elected representatives to tackle the problem.

We’ll be constantly adapting to something new, something unexpected.

If you have a particular skill or hobby… playing guitar for example… try finding ways to leverage it.

You could become an online freelancer, start a work-at-home job or side hustle, or spend some spare time learning how internet businesses work.

And preparing for a world where jobs are scarce isn’t all about making money… depending on your values, it might simply mean learning to live with less.

As Yuval Noah Harari, this is not a story about jobs… but a story of humans. Specifically what it means to be human.

Jobs will disappear… maybe not tomorrow or the day after, but eventually technology will render us irrelevant to the economy… and all that will be left will be our quest for purpose.

7 Tips For Bow Hunting For Survival

I know, we’re living in the age of drones and wireless internet, we have a space program and ICBM’s, we landed on Mars, we have hybrid cars and most of us don’t leave home without at least 3 different electronic devices.

Okay then, what is this guy blabbering about? Bow hunting? Robin Hood, is that you? Shut up and bring me that .50 Barrett and my pick-up truck and let’s go drone-hunting (I think it’s legal in Texas).

But hold your horses and listen here folks: bow hunting is an art form of the highest sort! Also, and most importantly, in a survival situation, knowing how to hunt using what nature provides abundantly may save your life one day. It’s a matter of when, not if, so be prepared!

Now, here comes the disclaimer: I don’t advocate the returning to a “better” age, when we used to hunt “wabbit” Pocahontas-style. I just want to point out a few important things every prepper should be aware of before discarding the idea of using a bow, that’s all!

The obvious advantages of bows and arrows are quite a few and, in a wilderness survival scenario, nothing beats a bow and arrow setup.

In this video, i will unearth a long-forgotten secret that helped our ancestors survive famines, wars, economic crisis, diseases, droughts and anything else life trew at them.
So pay chose attention because this video will change your life forever for the good!

Why Use a Bow?

Why are bows and arrows awesome? Stick with me and check this out:

  • You can make an improvised bow/arrow anytime. You don’t need that fancy Sporting Goods $300 Hunger Games kit. All you need is hardwood, like maples, ash, yew, pines, or aspen.
  • Arrows can be made from cattail (for example) or whittled from other types of woods. Cedar wood is the best arrow material according to many people, since it doesn’t warp so easily.
  • The arrowheads can be chipped from stones (flint would be the best) or you can harden the tip of the arrow itself by burning it to a point in the fire. The bow string can be made from the inner bark of various plants, such as milkweed or you can use animal hide and even the cords of someone’s jeans (in a survival situation you can use your imagination).
bow

As you can see, bows and arrows are the ultimate DIY weapons.

Consider this:

  • It’s a very portable (deadly) weapon, especially if you own a detachable bow, that comes apart in three pieces (it’s assembled using lug screws, I think Rambo had one of those, remember?)
  • It’s very affordable, even free if you’re DIY-ing.
  • It’s a versatile weapon that may be used for various things, not just for hunting but for fishing too; you can use bow strings in a multitude of scenarios, like bow drill for making fire, for making snares and traps, for trot line fishing etc.
  • Bows are silent weapons and the laws about them are very lax.
  • They are long-range weapons and very effective for both hunting and self-defense if SHTF. (Here are 23 survival uses for honey that you didn’t know about.)

Using a bow and an arrow in an effective way is another story though, because it requires mad skills and lots of practice. Actually, acquiring the skill is the most important thing; the equipment is useless if you’re not proficient in its use. Preparation is the key and you should start practicing now!

Bow Hunting Tips

Now, let me share with you a few bow hunting tips and strategies that can help you hunt a rabbit or defend your castle:

  1. When hunting , you must find the hidden food sources of the game you’re after; basically, if you find where the carrots are, the rabbit will be there, sooner or later. Keep in mind that you can always use lures to draw the game out, so be as imaginative as you like.
  2. Try to be an efficient hunter, by using good strategy, i.e. knowing when and where to hunt, where to stay out of, etc. These things can make a world of difference. For determining the best areas for hunting, you can use trail cameras if you have access to them in order to see if there’s game activity in the area; hunting in “hot” zones will dramatically increase your chances of success
  3. Think positive, because having a positive state of mind is actually more important than the quality of your gear! The mind is your ultimate weapon and having confidence in yourself and your skills will lead to more success not only when hunting, but in your day to day life. I know, it sounds like a motivational speech, but it’s very true! A good bow hunter is always an optimist and doesn’t get discouraged easily.
  4. Be patient at all times; bow-hunting is a waiting game. Preparation and practice make a world of difference, but if you can’t acquire that Zen attitude, that mental peace and relaxation, you’ll never be one of the best.
  5. When practicing with bows and arrows, you must try and get out of your comfort zone! Shooting arrows at fixed targets in your backyard while sipping a beer and smoking a cigar doesn’t mean that you’re prepared for a real-life situation. When the moment of truth arrives, you’ll probably botch the shot! If you want to be a real archer, you must practice out of your comfort zone; for example shoot from 60 yards instead of 30, even if it may be intimidating at first.
  6. Imagine yourself in a real hunting situation and don’t allow more than 4-5 seconds for settling the pin and shooting at the target. Make target acquisition a matter of just a few seconds, don’t take your time. Practice holding a full draw for as long as possible and also practice the “blind shooting” technique. Blind shooting is exactly what it says it is; basically shooting arrows quickly and intuitively in order to build muscle memory and to prepare your mind for acting instinctively, hence avoiding that adrenaline rush that appears when an opportunity presents itself (read deer).
  7. Don’t wait for the game to come to your location, hunt where the game is! Be versatile, even if this requires extra effort, you must sometimes climb trees and hide behind logs, but you’ll be repaid in the end for all your troubles. Don’t hunt the same stands, move one all the time, just like in guerilla warfare!

Don’t hesitate to use pop-up ground blinds, they offer incredible concealment for bow hunters and they’re easy to build (it takes less than ten minutes to build a ground blind).

Along with concealment, ground blinds will provide you with protection from bad weather and they are not recognized as a threat by wild animals.

20 Lost Recipes From The Pioneers: What They Cooked On Their Journey Westward

Pioneer life was not easy and the daily chores of managing a house where more than a full time occupation.

Cooking was a major part of each day. Early settlers butchered their own meat and made corned beef, sausage, smoked and dried meats. Large gardens yielded produce for canning, pickling and other preserves. Root cellars stored potatoes, carrots, and onions. Milk was separated into cream for butter and baking and milk for drinking. Breads, cakes and pies were of course all baked at home from scratch from whatever was available.

For the most part meals were informal and the food hearty. Nothing was wasted. Dried bread was made into bread pudding; a bone was turned into soup and extra milk was made into pudding or cheese. Often there was a shortage of some ingredient. As you will see from the recipes, many are based on very basic ingredients and several on how to make a meal with only a few ingredients. Recipes would not only be for food but also for perfume, home remedies, wine and soap making.

Recipe books were not common and cooking was very much a passed down art or trial and error. It is interesting to read recipes from this period, as often they are vague and written with a few small hints that only the person who wrote them would understand.

Pioneer women who had to decide what few precious things to carry across the plains surely made one choice in common—their own individual collection of “receipts,” as recipes were then called. For them, these were reminders of a security left behind and a hope for the abundance of the future. In the interim, they simply did what they had to do to keep their families alive.

Many early memories of pioneer food concerned the frugality with which the Saints lived: “We lived on cornbread and molasses for the first winter.” “We could not get enough flour for bread … so we could only make it into a thin gruel which we called killy.” “Many times … lunch was dry bread … dipped in water and sprinkled with salt.” “These times we had nothing to waste; we had to make things last as long as we could.”

No doubt the “receipt” books were closed during these times, and efforts were given simply to finding food and making it go as far as possible.

But slowly, even out of this deprivation, recipes grew. The pioneer women learned to use any small pieces of leftover meat and poultry with such vegetables as they might have on hand—carrots, potatoes, corn, turnips, onions—to make a pie smothered with Mormon gravy.

Experts predict that an EMP strike that wipes out electricity across the nation would ultimately lead to the demise of up to 90% of the population. However, this figure begs an important question: if we were able to live thousands of years without even the concept of electricity, why would we suddenly all die without it?

20 Lost Recipes From The Pioneers

Side Pork and Mormon Gravy

Mormon gravy, common fare among the early settlers and apparently a creation of necessity expressly for the times, is still hearty and nourishing for many of this generation who like to make it with ground beef or frizzled ham or bacon and serve it over baked potatoes.

8 thick slices side pork (or thick-cut bacon strips)

4 tablespoons meat drippings

3 tablespoons flour

2 cups milk

Salt, pepper, paprika

Cook meat on both sides in heavy frying pan until crisp. Remove from pan and keep warm. Measure fat and return desired amount to skillet. Add flour and brown slightly. Remove from heat and add milk, stirring well to blend. Return to heat and cook and stir until mixture is thick and smooth. Season to taste. Serve with side pork on potatoes, biscuits, cornbread, or even pancakes.

Mud apples

This is a variation on a Native American cooking method.

You will need

4 large apples
A bucket of mud

Coat the apples with about an inch of mud on all sides, being sure that the mud is of a nice thick consistency. When the fire has burned long enough to make some coals, have your adult help you to scoop some of the coals to the side. Bury the apples in the coals, and leave them there for about 45 minutes. Scrape away the cooled coals. Knock the dry cooked mud off of the apples and discard the skins. Spoon up the sweet steamy pulp for a surprising treat.

Some groups of Native American people used a mud coating on their food as a sort of oven. The steam from the mud would keep fresh-caught fish moist, and as it dried and became clay-like, it protected the food from burning. When the mud was peeled off, it took a lot of the fish scales with it. A delicious instant meal.

Chuckwagon beans

This is a cattle trail recipe from the Midwest. Although this was originally done on the campfire, it might be best if you bow to modern convenience and do the cooking on a stove top.

You will need

A 16-ounce package of dry pinto beans
9 cups of water
Two large onions, peeled and chopped up
2 teaspoons of salt
½ teaspoon of oregano
½ teaspoon of garlic powder, or two cloves of sliced garlic
¼ teaspoon of pepper
1 tablespoon of brown sugar or molasses (add this last, and put in a little more if you like.)

Wash the beans and heat them along with 6 cups of water ’til they boil for five minutes, then turn the stove off. Let them sit for an hour. Add three more cups of water and boil it all again. Now add everything else, stir it up, and cook it for about an hour.

Cowpokes on the drive west had to settle for foods which were portable. That meant a basic menu of beans and lots of meat. For a treat, there was cornbread, biscuits, or a sweetened rice dish. Pinto beans (which are small and spotted when raw, like a pinto pony) seemed to be the favorite. When cooked, these beans swell up and turn a sort of pinkish white. They were first given to the settlers by the natives on the Mexican border.

When you eat beans with rice or corn, the two foods mix up inside your body to create an important type of protein which is like the protein in meat. (Your body is made largely of protein, and so you need to eat a lot of it.) That’s why the native Southwestern people were so healthy with a diet of mostly beans and corn and not much meat.(Here are 23 survival uses for honey that you didn’t know about.)

Baked pocket yams

These were “handy” during the winter months, and not particular to any one area of the country.

Take several sweet potatoes, individually wrap them in foil, and surround them on all sides with mounded hot coals. Occasionally turn the potatoes. Cook till the sweet steam pipes out of the foil (about 45 minutes). Poke into the potato with a clean sharpened twig to check for doneness (the center will be soft).

When the potatoes are done, DON’T EAT THEM YET. Let them cool a bit, then slip one into each pocket to be used as hand warmers. These will keep you comfortable while you chat around the campfire. Pioneer mothers used to send their children off with these in the winter months to keep their hands toasty on the long walk to school. Then the kids would eat them for lunch. When you eat yours, you might want to use a dish and slather them up with butter.

Spotted Pup

Take whatever amount needed
for hungry cowboys of fluffy, cooked rice.

Put in Dutch oven and cover with milk and well-beaten eggs.
Add a dash of salt.
Sweeten well with sugar.

Add raisins and a little nutmeg and vanilla.

Bake in slow oven until egg mixture is done and raisins are soft.

Jerky Gravy

Jerky, ground or chopped fine
Little Fat or Grease
Flour
Salt & pepper
Milk

Fry the jerky until done.
Remove meat from grease, and add flour.
Add milk, and salt & pepper. Cook gravy. Add meat to gravy.
The amount of each ingredient depends on how much gravy you want.

Lemon Pie

One cup of hot water
One tablespoonful of corn-starch
One cup of white sugar
One tablespoonful of butter
Juice and grated rind of one lemon

Cook for a few minutes; add one egg; bake with a top and bottom crust.
This makes one pie.

Cooked Cabbage Salad

1 Pint or more of chopped cooked cabbage

Add: 1 Egg well beaten
¼ Cup vinegar
1 Tsp butter
Dash of salt and pepper

Sweeten to suit taste. Simmer a few minutes and add ½ cup of thick fresh cream. Serve immediately.

Winter Red Flannel Hash

A great way to use left over corned beef is to add a few new ingredients and create Red Flannel Hash. Who knows who came up with the beets, but it really is colorful, and sticks to the ribs.

1 ½ Cups chopped corned beef
1 ½ Cups chopped cooked beets
1 Medium onion, chopped
4 Cups chopped cooked potatoes

Chop ingredients separately, then mix together.
Heat all ingredients in a well- greased skillet,
slowly, loosen around the edges, and shake to prevent scorching.
After a nice crust forms on bottom, turn out on a warmed plate and serve.
If it seems a little dry add a little beef broth.
Try with a couple poached eggs, for a hearty meal.

Spiced Corn Beef

To 10 pounds of beef…
take 2 cups salt
2 cups molasses
2 tablespoonfuls saltpeter
1 tablespoonful ground pepper
1 tablespoonful cloves

Rub well into the beef.
Turn every day, and rub the mixture in.
Will be ready for use in 10 days.

1876 Cottage Cheese

Allow milk to form clabber.
Skim off cream once clabbered.
Set clabbered milk on very low heat and cut in 1 inch squares.
Place colander into clabber.
Dip off whey that rises into the colander.
When clabber becomes firm, rinse with cold water.

Squeeze liquid out and press into ball.
Crumble into bowl.
Mix curds with thick cream.

Mormon Johnnycake

Here is a form of cornbread used not only by the Mormon immigrants,
as the name indicates, but quite often by most of the immigrants traveling west.
Because of the inclusion of buttermilk, a source of fresh milk was a necessity.

2-cups of yellow cornmeal
½-cup of flour
1-teaspoon baking soda
1-teaspoon salt

Combine ingredients and mix in
2-cups of buttermilk and 2-tablespoons molasses.

Pour into a greased 9” pan and bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes.
To get a lighter johnnycake include two beaten eggs
and 2 tablespoons melted butter.

Soda Biscuits

Take 1lb flour, and mix it with enough milk to make a stiff dough;
dissolve 1tsp carbonate of soda in a little milk;
add to dough with a teaspoon of salt.

Work it well together and roll out thin;
cut into round biscuits, and bake them in a moderate oven.
The yolk of an egg is sometimes added.

Vinegar Lemonade

Mix 1 to 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into a 12 ounce glass of water.
Stir in 2 tablespoons of sugar to taste.

Note: The pioneers used vinegar for numerous reasons.
One reason was to add vitamin C to their diet.

Fried Apples

Fry 4 slices of bacon in a Dutch oven. Remove bacon.

Peel and slice 6 to 8 Granny Smith apples.

Put apples in Dutch oven with bacon grease,
cover and cook down the apples, but not to mush.

Serve topped with butter or cream and crumbled bacon.

They’re great for breakfast or desert!

Dutch Oven Trout

As soon as possible after catching your trout,
clean them and wipe the inside and outside of the trout
with a cloth wet with vinegar water.

Don’t put the trout in the water.
Roll the trout in a mixture of flour,
dry powdered milk,
cornmeal,
salt and pepper.

Heat deep fat in a Dutch oven and fry until crisp and golden brown.

Black Pudding

Here’s an old ranch recipe courtesy of Winkie Crigler, founder and curator of The Little House Museum in Greer, Arizona.

6 Eggs
1 Cup Sweet Milk
2 Cups Flour
1 Tsp Soda
1 Cup Sugar
1 Tsp Cinnamon
1 Cup Molasses

Mix well.  Pour into 1-pound can and steam for 2 to 3 hours by placing in kettle of boiling water.  Keep covered.

This is to be served with a vinegar sauce:
1 Cup Sugar
1 Tbsp  Butter
1 Tbsp Flour
2 Tbsp Vinegar
½ Tsp Nutmeg

Put in enough boiling water for amount of sauce wanted.
Add two slightly beaten eggs and cook stirring constantly to the desired consistency.

How To Fry Quick Doughnuts

The following recipe for doughnuts came from the March 17, 1885 Daily Missoulian.  Obviously, anyone making these doughnuts will want to find a substitute for fat as a cooking oil.

Put a frying kettle half full of fat over the fire to heat.  Shift together one pound of flour, one teaspoonful each of salt and bicarbonate of soda, and half a saltspoon full of grated nutmeg.

Beat half a pound of butter to a cream and add them to the flour.  Beat the yokes of two eggs to a cream, add them to the first-named ingredients, beat the whites to a stiff froth and reserve them.

Mix into the flour and sugar enough sour milk to make a soft dough and then quickly add the whites of the eggs.  Roll out the paste at once, shape and fry.

Kid Pie

If the kid (goat) is too fat to roast, cut it into pieces and make pies.  Make a sauce of cut up perejil (parsley) and put in the pies with a little sweet oil and place it in the oven.

A little before you take it out of the oven beat some eggs with vinegar or orange juice and put into the pie through the holes made in the crust for the steam to escape.

Then return pies to oven for enough time to repeat The Lord’s Prayer three times, then take the pies out and put them before the master of the house, cut it and give it to him.

Brown Gravy

The following is a farm recipe for gravy from the late 1880’s.

This gravy may be made in larger quantities, then kept in a stone jar and used as wanted.

Take 2 pounds of beef, and two small slices of lean bacon. Cut the meat into small pieces. Put into a stew-pan a piece of butter the size of an egg, and set over the fire.

Cut two large onions in thin slices. Put them in the butter and fry a light brown, then add the meat. Season with whole peppers.

Salt to taste. Add three cloves, and pour over one cupful of water.

Let it boil fifteen or twenty minutes, stirring it occasionally.

Then add two quarts of water, and simmer very gently for two hours.

Now strain, and when cold, remove all the fat.

To thicken this gravy, put in a stew pan a lump of butter a little larger than an egg, add two teaspoonfuls of flour, and stir until a light brown.

When cold, add it to the strained gravy, and boil up quickly. Serve very hot with the meats.

What Kind Of Supplies Did The Pioneers Take With Them?

The question is answered by the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center this way…

A variety of guidebooks, newspaper articles, and helpful tips in letters from friends or family who had already made the trip provided different lists about what and how much was essential to survive the five-month journey. The critical advice was to keep things as light as possible, and to take easily preserved staple foods. Supplies in each wagon generally had to be kept below 2,000 pounds total weight, and as the journey progressed and draft animals grew tired, many pioneers had to discard excess food and baggage. Items taken by nearly all wagon parties included flour, hard tack or crackers, bacon, sugar, coffee and tea, beans, rice, dried fruit, salt, pepper and saleratus (used for baking soda). Some also took whiskey or brandy, and medicines. Minimal cooking utensils included a cast iron skillet or spider, Dutch oven, reflector oven, coffee pot or tea kettle, and tin plates, cups, and knives, forks, spoons, matches, and crocks, canteens, buckets or water bags for liquids. A rifle, pistols, powder, lead, and shot were recommended for hunting game along the way, and for self-defense. Candles were used for lighting, as they were far less expensive and lighter than transporting oil, and several pounds of soap was included. Only two or three sets of practical, sturdy, and warm clothing of wool and linen had to last the wear and tear of the journey, and a small sewing kit for repairs was important. Basic tools such as a shovel, ax or hatchet, and tools to repair wagon equipment were essential. Bedding and tents completed the list of necessities. For most families, 1,600-1,800 pounds of their supplies would be food, leaving little space for other items. Although some people tried to include furniture, books, and treasured belongings, these were soon discarded. According to many accounts, the trail was littered with cast off trunks, bureaus, beds, clothing, excess food, and even cast iron stoves. Though prices and availability of goods varied from year to year, for most emigrants it cost a minimum of $600 to $800 to assemble a basic outfit of wagon, oxen, and supplies.

An article from the St. Joseph, Missouri Gazette dated March 19, 1847

The Pioneers discovered an amazing plant with properties similar to morphine. Find out how to prepare the best natural painkiller from a plant that grows in your backyard. Watch video below!

Here’s just a glimpse of what you’ll find in The Lost Ways:

From Ruff Simons, an old west history expert and former deputy, you’ll learn the techniques and methods used by the wise sheriffs from the frontiers to defend an entire village despite being outnumbered and outgunned by gangs of robbers and bandits, and how you can use their wisdom to defend your home against looters when you’ll be surrounded.

Native American ERIK BAINBRIDGE – who took part in the reconstruction of the native village of Kule Loklo in California, will show you how Native Americans build the subterranean roundhouse, an underground house that today will serve you as a storm shelter, a perfectly camouflaged hideout, or a bunker. It can easily shelter three to four families, so how will you feel if, when all hell breaks loose, you’ll be able to call all your loved ones and offer them guidance and shelter? Besides that, the subterranean roundhouse makes an awesome root cellar where you can keep all your food and water reserves year-round.

From Shannon Azares you’ll learn how sailors from the XVII century preserved water in their ships for months on end, even years and how you can use this method to preserve clean water for your family cost-free.

Mike Searson – who is a Firearm and Old West history expert – will show you what to do when there is no more ammo to be had, how people who wandered the West managed to hunt eight deer with six bullets, and why their supply of ammo never ran out. Remember the panic buying in the first half of 2013? That was nothing compared to what’s going to precede the collapse.

From Susan Morrow, an ex-science teacher and chemist, you’ll master “The Art of Poultice.” She says, “If you really explore the ingredients from which our forefathers made poultices, you’ll be totally surprised by the similarities with modern medicines.” Well…how would you feel in a crisis to be the only one from the group knowledgeable about this lost skill? When there are no more antibiotics, people will turn to you to save their ill children’s lives.

And believe it or not, this is not all…

Here’s How You’ll Die When the SHTF (and How to Prevent Your Untimely Demise)

When it hits the fan…I mean REALLY hits the fan in a permanent kind of way, the most likely outcome is death.

That’s not pretty, and I’m well aware of it. I always try to be positive and optimistic, because for me, preparedness is the ultimate act of optimism, but sometimes we have to look at the numbers and face some things that are pretty terrifying. The first reality check is that some research says that only 3 million Americans are preppers.  That means that 315 million Americans are not preppers. Some experts predict that within 30 days of the power going out, 50% of Americans will be dead. Within a year, an astounding 90% of the population will be dead.

Do you want to survive such a scenario? Do you want your children to survive? When you read this information, you have to realize that it’s very unlikely that you and your family would live through a grid failure of a year or more unless you are proactive and develop a preparedness plan that takes all of these causes of death into consideration.

The Top 10 Ways to Die in a Long-term Disaster

So here are the cold hard facts. One of these is the way that you are most likely to die when the SHTF, particularly in the event of a long-term grid failure. The good news is, now that you know this, you can take steps to prevent your untimely demise.

Experts predict that an EMP strike that wipes out electricity across the nation would ultimately lead to the demise of up to 90% of the population. However, this figure begs an important question: if we were able to live thousands of years without even the concept of electricity, why would we suddenly all die without it?

  1. You die of thirst or waterborne illness.  Most people have a case of water bottles kicking around, and perhaps a 5 gallon jug for the water cooler. What they don’t have is a gallon a day per person for a long-term emergency. Most people also don’t own a gravity fed, no-power necessary water filtration device with spare parts and extra filters. Most people do not have the skills and knowledge necessary to purify their water without these devices either.  Waterborne illness is the number one cause of death after a natural disaster. If just one person handles water and waste incorrectly, this can cause an epidemic of such deadly illnesses as Hepatitis A, viral gastroenteritis, cholera, Shigellosis, typhoid, Diphtheria and polio.  The other worry is dehydration. It only takes 3 days for a person to die of thirst.
  2. You die from fantasy-world planning. So many preppers have poorly thought out plans for survival. They think they’ll “live off the land” and hunt, forage, and farm their way through the apocalypse, but they’ve never milked a goat or planted the contents of their seed banks. They don’t understand that gardens and crops can fail for innumerable reasons. They think they’re still in the same physical condition that they were 25 years ago and overestimate their ability to perform physical labor, like chopping wood for the fire. There are hundreds of bad strategies that will get preppers killed, and mostly it boils down to one crucial fact: it’s all a fantasy. They’ve never done ANY of the things that they think they will do for survival, or if they have done them, it was decades ago, when they were younger, fitter, and more resilient. I can tell you right now, if we had to live off of the contents of this year’s drought-stricken, deer-and-gopher-raided garden, we’d last about a week, enjoying salsa by the jarful, but little else.
  3. You freeze to deathDepending on where you live, you may freeze to death when the power goes out.  When temperatures plummet, people will become desperate to get warm, and this will lead to other modes of death such as carbon monoxide poison from improperly vented heat sources and house fires when people use fireplaces or wood stoves that have not been maintained for years.
  4. You starve to death. Most people only have enough food to see them through until the next grocery trip.  Most people go to the grocery store more than once per week. In urban centers, it’s customary to buy your food fresh from the market each day.  If disaster strikes and you only have a few days’ worth of food, you are going to be one of those people standing in line for hours, begging FEMA for a bottle of water and an MRE to split amongst your family.  Even worse, in an extremely widespread disaster, FEMA won’t be coming at all, and you’ll be on your own, left with only what you have in your home…before it spoils and if you can figure out a way to cook it with no power.  Food poisoning, starvation, and malnutrition will be common causes of death.
  5. You have an accident involving major trauma. This is something that is difficult to prevent – that’s why they call it an accident. To up your chances of survival, always where the proper protective gear, such as safety goggles and gloves. Secondly, spend some time learning to deal with medical situations. Many communities offer free First Aid courses to get you started.
  6. You get murdered when raiders or looters come to steal your stuff.  Remember the 315 million unprepared Americans? They’re going to be hungry. And the hungrier and more desperate people become, the more dangerous the world is going to be. It’s imperative that you be prepared to defend your home and family from them. If you’re one of those people who says, “I don’t want to live in a world where I have to shoot someone because they’re hungry” you just might get your wish. Because they won’t have a problem shooting you. This is one of the major reasons that preppers must be armed. The danger isn’t just from mobs of strangers.  If you tend to talk too much, your friends, extended family, and neighbors just might be the ones to kill you for your supplies.
  7. You get sick. Without our normal standards of cleanliness and the access to medical care, the likelihood of getting sick increases. Without the access to medical care, the likelihood of that sickness spiraling out of control is exponentially greater. Learn how to treat and manage sickness naturally so that you can get a handle on an illness before it kills you.
  8. You get an infection. A silly little cut or splinter that we take for granted now could be a death sentence after the SHTF. With the possibility that your hygiene standards may drop and that you’ll be getting a lot dirtier doing physical labor, infection is fairly likely. It’s vital to immediately treat even the most trivial-seeming wound. For treating a wound. I have used iton all sorts of animal infections that I thought would prove fatal, with 100% positive results. Because of this, we use it on our own wounds as soon as possible, too. That may not always be enough to prevent an infection however, so having the right antibiotics on hand could mean the difference between life and death. Many veterinary antibiotics are identical to those made for humans.
  9. You die because you are fat and/or out of shape. If the Zombies approached and you found yourself outnumbered, are you fit enough to run away?  What if you had to bug out across the mountains? Would your heart hold up to the steep climb? Would your knees hold up to the descent? What if you add a 50 pound backpack? Now is the time to get yourself in shape. Most Americans lead fairly sedentary lives, sitting down to a desk all day for work. It’s not something you can fix overnight, so now is the time to increase your fitness. If you won’t do it for yourself, do it for the family members who will have to wait for you while you huff and puff. They’ll be killed when you slow them down. The road to fitness can start easily. If you can walk, you can improve your fitness level dramatically. This article discusses how to start out slowly and then build up your endurance and this PDF book will help you to reach a healthy body weight.
  10. You die when you daily medication runs out. This one is tougher to prevent. You can extend life expectancy by stockpiling medication but if the crisis outlasts your supply, there is a limit to what you can do. Who can forget the heartbreaking story of the diabetic girl in the book One Second After?  Don’t underestimate the difficulty for some of going without psychiatric drugs. Depending on the drug, withdrawal can be horrific, particularly if they have not been able to slowly wean themselves off. Some conditions, when untreated, can cause the sufferer to lose touch with reality and suffer a psychotic break, making them dangerous to themselves and others. Depending on the medication you require, there are sometimes natural alternatives and dietary tweaks that can help. Some existing conditions can be managed better now through lifestyle changes, which will increase your chances for survival later. For example, if you suffer from Type 2 Diabetes and are significantly overweight, improving your diet and losing weight now can reduce your dependence on daily medication in many cases. Keep in mind that some medications are okay after the expiration dates, while others can be deadly. Learn everything you can about your medical condition and figure out a plan ahead of time.

Good news: nearly all of these deaths will be preventable

Now that you know how you’ll die, you can take the necessary steps to prevent it. Almost every cause of death mentioned here is entirely preventable.

What will save you when an epic disaster strikes is what you do now to prepare for it. Make education and good health your mission now and you’ll not only survive the SHTF, you’ll thrive against the odds.

What do you think are the most likely ways people will die? What are the best preventative steps we can take ahead of time?

In this video, i will unearth a long-forgotten secret that helped our ancestors survive famines, wars, economic crisis, diseases, droughts and anything else life trew at them.
So pay chose attention because this video will change your life forever for the good!

How To Reinforce a Shipping Container To Bury It (EMP proof)

EMPs are potentially one of the most destructive weapons that could be used against today’s society. Just a single nuclear bomb detonated at high altitude over a major city could wipe out all electronics for potentially thousands of miles around.

If you find yourself the victim of an EMP attack, you’re likely going to be living in the dark ages for quite a while. All the skills that came so naturally to our ancestors like hunting, fishing, trapping, and growing food will have to be sharpened, if not re-learned completely.

We often lose track of just how many machines and services run on electricity nowadays. Almost every aspect of modern life is influenced or controlled by electronics, and they’re all vulnerable – so life after an electromagnetic pulse attack would be a lot different from what we’re used to.

Long distance communication would be difficult, if not impossible. Similar to life in an Amish community, we would have to start over from scratch and make do with only mechanical tools.

That is of course unless you’re able to store a disassembled, complete electrical power generation system for your home inside something like a Faraday cage.

What does it take to defend against an EMP?

A Faraday cage is an enclosed space that is completely shielded from the effects of an EMP – whether that be a small box covered with aluminum foil, or an entire shipping container fortified to withstand an EMP attack.

Obviously, if you want to fit something as big as a home electrical generation system inside of your Faraday cage, you need a big space to do it in.

You could store electronics you don’t want to be compromised in it as well, but without the ability to generate your own electricity these devices won’t do you much good.

Thus, you need a buried shipping container big enough to accommodate such a system, and the right reinforcements to keep everything inside protected from an EMP.

Experts predict that an EMP strike that wipes out electricity across the nation would ultimately lead to the demise of up to 90% of the population. However, this figure begs an important question: if we were able to live thousands of years without even the concept of electricity, why would we suddenly all die without it?

How Exactly Should I Reinforce My Shipping Container?

The fact that your shipping container is already a few inches in the ground already means that it’s grounded. It needs to be grounded so the EMP will flow through the soil with the least resistance, the same way a lightning strike would. Being grounded will also help remove potential stray fields that could be present.

Depending on what the shipping container is made out of, you won’t need to do a whole lot of sealing up. You’ll likely want to flip it upside down though. The roof is thicker than the floor, and you want a thicker floor to prevent warping of the container when it settles in the ground.

Once it’s in the ground you can fill it up with the electronics that you want to protect. The shipping container itself should work as long as it’s sealed up, but if you want to you can nest some containers inside.

Nesting is similar to Russian nesting dolls, except with Faraday cages. It’s putting cages inside of cages inside of cages. Ammunition boxes work for this, as well as microwaves and metal trashcans with sealed lids.

For sealing up the doors, some people choose to simply create a stainless steel or copper mesh wall over the door. This can then be easily broken down once you need to get back into the container.

You could also choose to solder the door shut completely which would be the safest option, but likely unnecessary. Door seals made of copper braiding will also do the trick.

One thing to remember about storing stuff inside your shipping container is that all the items need to be kept away from the metal walls. The walls of a Faraday cage exposed to EMP will carry a pretty substantial current while the pulse lasts, and anything in contact with them is probably going to get damaged. The floor counts as well, so you’ll want to lay down some thick carpet or rugs.

Buying a shipping container with a wooden floor would also work, as long as nothing inside is touching the metal of your container.

Things to Remember

It’s not necessary to use a full shipping container as a Faraday cage unless you intend to use all of that space. As stated before, using it to store a full disassembled power generation system is your best bet if you want to have electricity after an EMP attack.

It’s also a good idea to store something like a motorcycle or a four-wheeler in one of these. You could even store a full truck or car in yours, but a motorcycle or similar sized vehicle will take up much less space.

If you intend to solder your doors shut, make sure you have the right tools to get it open in case of an EMP attack.

There’s a quick and easy test to see if your container is completely EMP proof. Simply place a cell phone inside the container, and close it up. Then as you’re standing outside the container, call your cell phone from another phone. Place your ear to the container and see if you can hear it ringing.

Here are 23 survival uses for honey that you didn’t know about.

If you CAN hear it ringing, your container will NOT protect your electronics from an EMP. If you can’t hear it working, there’s a good chance your container is EMP proof.

This isn’t completely foolproof but it’s the only way to test your container without setting off an actual EMP.

EMP attacks can be destructive and downright deadly if used on a wide enoughscale. In order to protect your electronics from an attack, you’ll need a Faraday cage.

Placing a shipping container in the ground and sealing it up completely works as an excellent Faraday cage. It’s naturally grounded, and large enough to store very important items like vehicles or self-generating power equipment.

In event of an attack, you will likely be the only one around for miles with any working electrical equipment, which puts you and your family at a huge advantage in an area that’s been plunged back into the dark ages.

For All Intents And Purposes, There Are Only Two In Competition In The US And Those Are The AK-47 And The AR-15: Which Rifle is Better When SHTF?

Yes, I am going there. One of the most hotly debated questions in prepper/survival/firearm enthusiast circles is around the best survival rifle. For all intents and purposes, there are only two in competition in the US and those are the AK-47 and the AR-15. I will add that there are variants of both and I am lumping all of those into these two categories. This question of what is the best survival rifle is one that I asked myself when I was considering my first rifle purchase so I wanted to take some time to hash out what I see are the differences and to give you my opinion as to which rifle is better when it comes to the AK-47 vs AR-15.

House cleaning

I know that this subject is insanely controversial, even though it shouldn’t be. It’s the same as getting upset over Ford versus Chevy. If this post makes it to some of the firearms forums out there I know I will have some people who will disparagingly call me an “Internet Expert” implying that I have no idea what I am talking about. So be it. I am not an expert, but I don’t think anyone else is an expert either in this subject. I don’t think anyone out there is more qualified to determine what rifle is best in my opinion, for me, than me. I don’t really care if you are active duty police, 20 year military veteran, or mercenary for hire. This is my opinion based upon my belief and requirements, you are entitled to yours, but that doesn’t mean mine is invalid. It also doesn’t mean you are smarter than anyone else that disagrees with you. It simply means we have different opinions.

Additionally, I will throw out some facts that should be pretty easy to agree on and some opinions based upon my personal experience which may not be. Just because your experience is different, that doesn’t make it a law of science or anything. If you have a different experience, by all means, please comment down below but I would ask you to keep the debate civil as that is what I am going to try to do. If you would like to make your case for the opposite of what I recommend, please do so in the comments and we can all judge whether what you are saying makes sense.

History

sovietinlinearmy ak47

Very briefly, the The AK-47 is a selective-fire, gas-operated rifle that fires 7.62×39mm ammunition. The AK-47 was developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov. Design work on the AK-47 began in the last year of World War II (1945). In 1949, the AK-47 was officially accepted by the Soviet Armed Forces and used by the majority of the member states of the Warsaw Pact. It is still widely used today.

If you are going to count on a rifle, you should know how to take care of it.

The AR-15 is a lightweight, magazine-fed, air cooled rifle with a rotating-lock bolt, actuated by direct impingement gas operation or long/short stroke piston operation that fires 5.56 mm/.223-caliber ammunition.

The AR-15 was first built by ArmaLite as a small arms rifle for the United States armed forces. Because of financial problems, ArmaLite sold the AR-15 design to Colt who made some modifications and the redesigned rifle was subsequently adopted as the M16 rifle which was the main rifle used by US Armed Forces. Colt then started selling the semi-automatic version of the M16 rifle as the Colt AR-15 for civilian sales in 1963 and the term AR-15 has been used to refer to semiautomatic-only versions of the rifle since then.

For the purpose of this comparison we are only going to be discussing semi-automatic weapons available for purchase in the US by a non FFL carrying person, not their fully automatic counterparts.

The Facts

You can quickly see some of the facts below about each rifle on this excellent info graphic from TacticalGear.com , but I will list what I see are the important differences between the two rifles.

  • The AR-15 can effectively shoot 200 yards further than the AK-47.
  • The AK-47 shoots a significantly larger bullet than the AR-15.
  • The AR-15 weighs 2 pounds less (not counting a lot of hardware we add after the fact) than the AK-47
  • The AK-47 usually costs less than an AR-15.
  • The AR-15 has a higher (30% more) accuracy than the AK-47
  • The AK-47 is more widely used globally by a long shot than the AR-15.

The Debate

There are really only 3 main arguments that proponents of the AK-47 use as their rationale for saying that the AK-47 is the better survival rifle so I want to list and address each below.

  • AK-47 rounds penetrate better and do more damage – This is true generally speaking, let’s move on to the next point.
  • AK-47 Costs less – This is true generally, let’s move on to the next point.
  • AK-47 will keep working no matter how dirty it gets – This is also true to an extent, but with a caveat. The point to this argument is that if the AR-15 gets too dirty, you will have firing problems. I can tell you from personal experience that I have never had a single problem with any AR-15 or it’s fully automatic cousins that I have ever shot. However, I clean my rifles usually after every time I shoot them. Sometimes, I will wait, but they never go too long without a thorough cleaning, so what is this point supposed to be saying to us? Well, what if you are in a firefight and you have to shoot 300 rounds through your AR-15 rifle; will it jam then? No, at least not in my experience. Maybe if you shot 10000 rounds through it without cleaning the rifle you could see some issues, but if you are in a firefight so bad that you have shot 10000 rounds, you have bigger problems. What if you drop it in a vat of guacamole? Not a valid point in my book.

AK-47 vs. AR-15

Which Rifle is the Best Survival Rifle?

I will tell you that in my opinion, the best rifle is the one you have with you when you need it. That sounds well and good, but if I was going to buy one rifle, and I lived in America, it would be the AR-15. Why? For me this comes down to 4 simple points.

Accuracy – The AR is simply more accurate at further distances than the AK-47. If I wanted to shoot a rifle up in the air when I was mad, riding in the back of a Toyota truck with 20 of my friends, or happy, or just plain stupid then I might get an AK-47. One of my goals is to be able to engage targets at up to 500 yards and the AR-15 does that better than the AK-47. The AK might use a heavier round that will go through more solid objects, but if you are able to kill the person holding the AK 200 yards before he can hit you, does that matter?

Range – Speaking of range, the AR-15 shoots further effectively, so that just adds to what I was saying above. Range is also important to me because I want to be able to take people out as far away as possible. I don’t want you getting so close that your AK-47 can hit me. I would rather you and your AK be far away and I will take care of you way out there. I don’t mind walking out there to pick up your rifle when I am finished.

Parts – The AR-15 is like the Barbie doll of the firearm world. There are so many accessories! And yes, the military version of this rifle (M16/M4) has a majority of parts that are fully compatible with the AR-15. The AR-15 is also the same weapon used by police, DHS, and NASA. If anything bad happens, there should be plenty of opportunity for spare parts to be acquired. I can’t say the same for the AK-47 unless we are invaded by Russia. So, even if your AK is able to fire with some mud in it, what if something breaks? That is why you buy spare parts you say. No, that is why you buy what everyone else is using including our government.

Ammo – Same as above, this is the ammo our police and military use as well as quite a large number of my countrymen, so I have the advantage of a very common caliber in my favor.

OK, that is my rationale and those are my reasons. The AR-15 does cost a little more on average, but you can find really good deals out there if you look and the price difference would be much lower. Does this mean I wouldn’t own an AK-47? No, not at all. I would love to have one, but I do think that for the reasons I listed above, if you can only choose one and you live in the good old US of A, the AR-15 is the better option in my opinion. I know for a fact people will disagree with me, so please let me know what you think in the comments below.

Garbage soup helped reduce waste during the Great Depression. Each batch was different, depending on what you ate during the week.

It’s a great strategy to help you get the most out of your food. There’s no real recipe per se. Here’s how it’s made.

Keep all your vegetable scraps and bones in a container in the fridge. At the end of each week, place the ingredients in a pot. Cover with water and stir in lots of salt and pepper.

Bring to a boil, skim off any foam, and let simmer for several hours.

Strain out bones before serving.

10. Foraged Salad

Take time to learn what wilds around you are edible, and where you can find some without pesticides. Foraging gives you nutritious food for free.

Ingredients:

  • 16 2/3 cup flour (5 pounds)
  • 5 TBS yeast
  • 6 tsp salt
  • 5 cups warm water

Combine 10 cups flour, yeast, and salt. Add water and stir well with a wooden spoon.

Cover and let rise until doubled in bulk (about an hour).

Punch down dough and let rest for ten minutes.

Shape dough into seven loaves. Place into greased loaf pans, or onto greased cookie sheets. Let rise one hour.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, or until browned.

  • ½ pound hamburger
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 cups uncooked macaroni
  • Lots of fresh tomatoes, peeled and diced

Stir in macaroni. Continue cooking on medium high until the macaroni is tender. Season with salt and pepper.

13. Oil Pie Crust

Pie was a common dessert during the depression. You could use just a pinch of different ingredients and combine them into a tasty treat.

The crust is an important part of the pie. If butter and lard aren’t available, you can use oil to make a simple pie crust. Here’s the recipe for a no-roll single crust.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup oil
  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup cold water

Place into an 8-inch pie pan and spread it out with your hands. Cover the bottom and sides. Bring any excess over the rim and push down with a fork.

14. Vinegar Pie

Since vinegar could be made at home, depression era cooks often had it in abundance. With just a few basic ingredients, they could whip together a tasty vinegar pie.

Some families topped it with a layer of meringue. But, surplus eggs weren’t always available. It tastes just as delicious without any topping.

Ingredients:

  • 2 TBS butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix sugar and flour thoroughly. Slowly whisk in cream. When completely combined, pour into pie crust.

Bake for 45-50 minutes, until filling is firm.

Surviving the Depression

These simple recipes kept people alive throughout the depression. But, it wasn’t just these recipes. It was innovation and the ability to use everything. Waste not, want not wasn’t just a cliché saying, it was life.

And this same attitude will help you survive whatever crisis you find yourself in.

Experts predict that an EMP strike that wipes out electricity across the nation would ultimately lead to the demise of up to 90% of the population. However, this figure begs an important question: if we were able to live thousands of years without even the concept of electricity, why would we suddenly all die without it?
